Instructions for TPA Data Updates

The installation instructions are slightly different for Updates (the most common) and Full databases.

To install a Daily Update:

  1. Download the file dataupd.exe by clicking on it. Your browser may give you the option of either running the file, or saving it to disk. We recommend saving to disk, although you're free to do as you wish.

  2. After downloading, run the file. It will unpack the update files into the UPDATE folder of your TPA folder (the default is C:\TPA\UPDATE).

  3. If TPA is running, it will automatically update its databases using the update files.
If TPA is not already running, it will be started, and it will then automatically update its databases using the update files.

To install a Full database:

  1. First, you will probably never need to download a full database. If you do, and you already have that database and you've added your own custom information to it, you risk losing that information. The full databases are made available here primarily so that you can get databases that were not originally sent to you with your TPA installation disks.

  2. Download the file by clicking on it. Your browser may give you the option of either running the file, or saving it to disk. We recommend saving to disk, although you're free to do as you wish.

  3. After downloading, run the file. It will ask you where the contents of the file (a single .CDB file) should be placed on your computer. You should put it in your TPA folder (the default, C:\TPA, should be fine for most users), or in whichever folder you use to save your commodity databases. In order to use this database in TPA, open it using the File | Open commodity database… menu item.

Since the full databases are only rebuilt by PTT, Inc. once each week on Saturday morning, you will probably need to re-run today's data update to bring your new database up to date.
