Opening range

         Use the opening range question to examine how the opening range relates to other key market levels.

Example:

         Today’s opening range is above yesterday’s high price. (Market opens with an upside gap.)

Questions from Traders:

         How often does the market gap higher on the opening? Is the gap filled or left behind?

Answers:

         Gap openings are rare, happening a little over 13.8% of the time. Even more unusual are gaps that hold for the remainder of the day. By doing a refined search of arbitrary prices within the prior day’s range, we found that nearly 76% of the time the gap left by the opening range was filled at some point later in the day.
